Lowering the drinking age in the US?

(So normally i would post this kind of rant on facebook, but most of the people on my friends list are idiots who made our graduating phrase be “Turn down for what? Turn down for nothing!”)

To explain why I’m writing about this topic, I’ve come across a few petitions to lower the legal drinking age in America from 21 to 18, like how it is in many other countries. The people who support the petitions say things like “If you’re old enough to die for your country, you’re old enough to buy a beer.”
Now, I’m nowhere close to being an expert, but you can ENLIST at age 18, but I honestly doubt that anyone is sent into combat at that age without proper training. And seriously, out of my entire graduating class, I only know of one kid who is trying to join the Marines. So. That excuse is out.
Other say that kids as young as 12 (and even younger!) are drinking, so why not just make it ok?
Well, uhm, maybe because it’s stupid? Begining to drink at that age can cause severe health problems and leads to a life of addictions and other dangers. And besides, when has “cuz everyone else is doing it” ever been a good reason??
And in my own opinion, the legal drinking age should be risen. I do NOT trust the average 21 year old to be able to limit themselves and not drink and drive. Because if they do that, and hit and kill anybody I care about, screw giving up their life for their country, cuz I’ll be the one to kill them, plain and simple.
Lowering the legal drinking age in America is stupid as well as dangerous, because our brains do not finish developing untill around the age of 24 (if i remember correctly). Untill then, we have an immortality complex, believing that nothing bad will ever happen to us because we’re too young and it will never happen to us. WE aren’t the kids that get into accidents cuz WE are good drunk drivers, right? Its never been us, so it will never BE us that are killed.
Well guess what kids? It never happens to you untill it does.
I guess my point is that there is no good point to lower the legal drinking age.
No, it won’t deter kids from drinking, but hopefully it will stop them from doing it in public and in a car. Im 18, and I don’t trust my generation to drink responsibly.

What if verbal abuse left the same scars as physical abuse? Would it be taken more seriously? That’s what photographer Richard Johnson hopes to accomplish with his new photo project, “Weapons of Choice.”

The series uses a makeup artist to put bruises and scars on photo subjects. Embedded in these violent marks are some hateful words typically associated with abuse, such as “Stupid,” “Dumb,” “Trash” and others that are much, much worse.

Dan’s 2 favorite things… sorry, someone had to say it

Aww, Phil and his laptop, what more could you want :)

Dan’s two babies :)

That’s so sweet :)

Are we just ignoring the fact that the reason Dan put his laptop down on Phil anyways is because he needed to pull up his pants.

There was plenty of room to put it on the sofa by his side.. but he didn’t

I’m here to talk to you about The Avengers…
